The Preach Calling

Half a world away on the continent of Africa, a primitive tribe unknown to the rest of the world meets the dawning of a new day. Having known no other existence outside their tribal village lifestyle, these natives have never seen a day without famine or death; they have never known a night without the beating of the witchdoctor's drum; nor have they ever heard the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Scattered across the vast waters of our planet lies a group of people who hold one thing in common: the Portuguese language.

Because this unwillingness to abandon our familiar environment generates endeavors that are powered only by human strength, 49 of every 50 missionaries sent to the field will never return for their second term of service. Although the Great Commission was not intended to be an unending task that would continue indefinitely, the structure of our means to fulfill this command has restricted our effectiveness such that the number of souls being born is outpacing the number of souls that are being born again.

Of the sixty-five hundred languages in the world, only 32% have ever heard the gospel. Only 4% have a complete copy of the scriptures in their native dialect. 180 souls are passing into the depths of eternity every sixty seconds. America was number 1 per capita in the world in sending missionaries, but has now declined to number 17. Every Christmas, more money is spent on wrapping paper alone than all the combined giving to missions in a year. Only one-tenth of one percent of all the tithes in American churches are given to missions. It is time to turn from being sincere to being serious about the propagation of the greatest story the world will ever hear.
